The On-the-Job Training Experience of Mark Edwin E. Huyo-a

Introduction

On-the-Job Training (OJT) serves as one of the most significant components of an Information Technology student’s academic journey. It bridges the gap between theoretical understanding and real-world application, enabling students to develop essential technical, interpersonal, and professional skills. For Mark Edwin E. Huyo-a, his 500-hours internship as an IT Support Intern became a transformative experience that deepened his knowledge, challenged his capabilities, and broadened his perspective of the IT industry. Throughout his training, he was exposed to various technical operations—ranging from structured cabling to systems administration—while also taking on creative, collaborative, and leadership-oriented tasks. His involvement in diverse company activities allowed him to strengthen his technical competencies while understanding how IT services support business operations.

Exposure to Structured Cabling and Network Infrastructure.

One of the foundational experiences Mark encountered during his OJT was structured cabling. This task introduced him to the physical backbone of network systems. He learned how to arrange, manage, and secure cables to ensure efficient connectivity within an organization. Through hands-on engagement, he became familiar with cable types, labeling procedures, patch panel organization, and network layout design.

More importantly, he gained insight into how proper cabling affects network stability, ease of troubleshooting, and overall IT system performance. By assisting in cable runs, terminating network cables, and helping maintain organized racks and outlets, Mark recognized the value of discipline and precision in even the most fundamental aspects of IT work.

Graphics Design for Site Activity Posting.

Mark’s OJT also allowed him to explore the creative side of technology. He was tasked with designing graphics for different site activities such as site inspections, CCTV installation updates, and Starlink deployment announcements. These graphics were used for documentation, company records, and activity posting to update stakeholders and clients.

Through this experience, Mark strengthened his skills in layout design, branding alignment, and visual communication. He learned how to use design tools to create clean, informative graphics that effectively illustrated project progress. This role enhanced not only his technical ability but also his creativity and attention to detail—skills that are invaluable in IT environments where visual communication is increasingly important.

Leadership Opportunity: Price Verifier System Project.

One of the most defining experiences of Mark’s OJT was being given the opportunity to lead a team in developing the company’s Price Verifier System. This task required both technical skill and leadership capability. As team leader, Mark coordinated tasks, facilitated collaboration, and ensured that the project stayed on track.

The Price Verifier System was successfully developed and deployed, marking a major achievement in his internship journey. Through this project, Mark learned how to translate user requirements into functional system features, troubleshoot technical challenges, and conduct testing before deployment. He also gained firsthand experience presenting a working system, documenting processes, and ensuring the solution met the company’s operational needs.

This accomplishment reinforced his confidence and demonstrated his potential to take on larger responsibilities in real-world IT environments.

User Interface Creation for the “Spin the Wheel” Promo.

Another highlight of his internship was designing the user interface (UI) for the company’s “Spin the Wheel” promotional system. The UI was intended for clients to interact with during promotional activities, allowing them to spin the wheel digitally and participate in company offerings.

Through this task, Mark explored UI design principles, ensuring the interface was visually appealing, responsive, and easy to navigate. He applied fundamental UX concepts, such as intuitive layout, readable typography, and user-friendly controls. The successful creation of the spin-the-wheel UI further expanded his skill set in front-end development and interactive design—an essential area in modern IT services.

System Administration and Network Configuration Experience.

Mark was also exposed to systems administration tasks, particularly involving the configuration of IP addresses for company computers. This allowed him to understand how devices communicate within a network and how proper network configuration supports seamless workflow across departments.

He assisted in setting up PCs to ensure they could connect with one another, enabling file sharing and collaborative access. Through this, he learned about network protocols, static and dynamic IP assignment, and basic troubleshooting techniques for connectivity issues.

This hands-on experience in network configuration strengthened his understanding of how IT systems operate in real corporate environments, where reliability, security, and efficiency are top priorities.

Article Writing and Documentation Experience.

Beyond technical work, Mark also engaged in writing articles and documentation for the company. This involved preparing written material that recorded project progress, summarized field activities, or explained technical procedures in ways that were easy for readers to understand.

Through this opportunity, he improved his communication skills—particularly the ability to create clear, concise, and structured documentation. Effective documentation is essential in the IT industry, where technical tasks must be recorded accurately for future reference, auditing, and troubleshooting.

His writing experience complemented his technical tasks, making him a more well-rounded IT trainee.

Overall Learning and Personal Growth.

Mark’s wide range of responsibilities during his OJT exposed him to many facets of IT work—technical, creative, administrative, and collaborative. He gained experience not only in performing IT support tasks but also in handling real-world challenges, adapting to workplace environments, and contributing meaningfully to company operations.

He developed time management, teamwork, technical versatility, and problem-solving skills—attributes that will serve as strong foundations as he advances toward his professional career.

Conclusion

Mark Edwin E. Huyo-a’s 500-hour On-the-Job Training experience as an IT Support Intern was a comprehensive journey of growth, learning, and self-development. From structured cabling to systems administration, from UI creation to team leadership, he was immersed in diverse tasks that enhanced both his technical competence and professional confidence. His contributions—such as leading the Price Verifier System project and designing promotional interfaces—reflect his dedication and readiness for real-world IT roles. Through this internship, Mark not only applied what he learned in the classroom but also gained valuable skills that will guide him in his future endeavors in the field of Information Technology.
