Fiber Optic Cable Installation at K5-Tech Business Solutions.

Introduction.

On March 05, 2026, the technical team from InstallersPh IT Solutions conducted a fiber cable fusion splicing activity at SM Cebu Mabolo. The objective of the task was to properly terminate the fiber optic line using fusion splicing with SC pigtails to establish a stable and reliable fiber optic connection. This activity was part of the network setup process to ensure smooth and efficient data transmission within the facility.

Fiber optic technology is widely used in modern communication systems due to its ability to transmit data at high speed with minimal signal loss. To maintain the performance and reliability of a fiber network, proper installation and termination procedures must be followed. One of the most effective techniques used in fiber installation is fusion splicing, which permanently joins two fiber strands together.

Preparation of Fiber Cables.

Before performing the fusion splicing process, the team carefully prepared the fiber optic cables. Proper preparation is an important step because it directly affects the quality of the splice and the overall performance of the network connection.

The team first removed the outer protective coating of the fiber cable to expose the delicate fiber strands inside. After stripping the protective layer, the fiber cores were thoroughly cleaned to remove dust, dirt, or oil that could interfere with the splicing process. Cleaning the fibers ensures that the splice will have minimal signal loss and a strong connection.

The fiber ends were then precisely cut using a specialized tool called a fiber cleaver. This tool creates a smooth and straight fiber end, which is necessary for accurate alignment during the splicing process.

Fusion Splicing Process.

Once the fibers were fully prepared, the team used a fusion splicer to perform the termination. A fusion splicer is a specialized device designed to align two fiber ends and fuse them together using controlled heat. This process melts the fiber ends and joins them permanently, creating a strong and reliable connection.

During the activity, the main fiber cables were spliced to SC pigtails. A pigtail is a short fiber cable with a connector already attached to one end. By attaching the pigtail through fusion splicing, the fiber line can easily be connected to networking devices such as patch panels or optical distribution frames.

Since the fiber cables at the location were already installed prior to the activity, the team focused only on completing the fusion termination. Each splice was performed carefully to ensure proper alignment and to reduce signal loss as much as possible.

Testing and Verification.

After completing the fusion splicing process, the team conducted light testing to confirm that the fiber connection was functioning properly. Light testing is a standard method used in fiber optic installations to check whether the signal can pass through the fiber cable without interruption.

The results of the testing showed that the fiber connections were properly aligned and that the signal transmission was stable. This confirmed that the fusion splicing activity was successful and that the fiber network was ready for use.
